ABOUT US

Meet Caye

Cayetana Calderon-Smith is Therapy 2.0's founding therapist.

Hi there :)

I'm a trauma-informed, neurodiverse-affirming therapist who prioritizes growth, core insights & skill-building. My clients say I'm direct, warm, straightforward, and fun (when appropriate).

I work with emerging adults (16+) & adults who are neurodivergent, high IQ/gifted, anxious or depressed. My special clinical & research interests explore protective, neutral and risky digital technology use. I also explore institutional betrayal in individuals, groups and organizations.

In addition to my clinical work, I have been published in Routledge, Current Pediatric Reports, and Counseling Today. I'm a repeat presenter at Jefferson University's Trauma Training Conference, and I deliver workshops, trainings and presentations for organizations and businesses.

Additional manuscripts, publications and presentations are at draft, review and submission stages.

Please request all of my work; there's a lot more!

  • Modalities

I exclusively use science-backed and evidence-based modalities, like ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and skills and tools from DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy).

Additionally, in our work together, I'll keep an eye out for transdiagnostic (diagnosis-spanning) symptoms that can be found across different diagnoses and mental health concerns.

  • Tech & Internet Use

I have special clinical & research interests in supportive, neutral and problematic internet & tech use.

I am a practicing clinician with this demonstrated interest. If you'd like to reach out to chat about this work, please do.

For me, this broad focus has been a mainstay of my professional career. For almost 15 years before becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in digital design, marketing & data collection. I harnessed the power of digital tools to nudge behaviors and emotions. This prompted my mission-driven career shift to become a tech-aware psychotherapist, which is a true professional calling.

Research note: Current insights from world-class researchers demonstrate that internet & tech use is not globally helpful or harmful, and significantly more research needs to be done in this space!

If impacts exist, current research suggests they could differ from person to person, they could change over time, and there could be periods of sensitivity or vulnerability to certain types of use. To complicate things further, science still has to identify the chicken-or-egg issue of how mental health & tech use cyclically interact!

  • Fun Facts

Over the years, I've been a daughter, sister, wife, step-mother, doggie-mom, friend, classically-trained designer, and psychotherapist. I've lived on both coasts (Los Angeles and Philadelphia), in the midwest (Chicago), and in India (Bangalore)

In my free time, I enjoy art (abstract expressionism), reading (nonfiction), hiking (everywhere), and tennis (singles). When we connect, please ask to e-meet my little Chihuahua, Coco (she's the one in the photo!) and feel free to introduce me to your little ones, too.

I have a goofy sense of humor, and if you do too, we'll get along beautifully. (Note: laughter is therapeutic.)
